Text Box: LAW 50 D    DISPOSAL OF A MAJOR PENALTY CARD
LAW 50 D 1(a) A MAJOR penalty card MUST BE PLAYED at the FIRST legal opportunity, whether in leading, following suit, discarding or trumping. If a defender has 2 or more penalty cards that can legally be played, Declarer can designate which is to be played.
LAW 50 D 2 (a) If offenders partner has the lead declarer can exercise any of these options:-
(a) Require defender to lead the suit of the penalty card, or prohibit tim from leading that suit for as long as he retains the lead.In either case the card is no longer a penalty card and is picked up. 
(b) LAW 50 D 2 (b) Not to require or forbid a lead, in which case the defender may lead any card; The penalty card remains a MAJOR penalty card. In this case this law (all of LAW 50 D) continues to apply for as long as the penalty card remains.
Law 50 E Knowledge of the requirements for playing a penalty card is authorised information for all players.

Text Box: LAW 50 C   DISPOSAL OF A MINOR PENALTY CARD.
When a defender has a MINOR penalty card , he may not play any other card of the same suit below the rank of an honour until he has first played the penalty card, but he is entitled to play an honour instead 
(or any legal card in any other suit).
No lead restrictions on partner but information gained through seeing the penalty card is unauthorised.
