DISPOSITION OF A MAJOR PENALTY CARD |
| LAW 50 A |
A penalty card must be face up and before the player to whom
it belongs. |
| LAW 50 B |
A single card of 9 or below exposed inadvertantly becomes a minor penalty card. |

A single card of 10 or above exposed inadvertantly becomes a major penalty card. |
|
Any card exposed deliberately becomes a major
penalty card. |
|
If a defender has 2 or more penalty cards, all such cards are major penalty cards. |

| LAW 50 D 1 |
A major penalty
card must be played at the first legal opportunity.If a defender |
|
has 2 or more which
can be legally played declarer can designate which is to |
|
be
played. |
| LAW 50 D 2 (a) |
When a defender has the lead while his partner has a major
penalty card declarer may |
|
choose |
|
a) request that suit to be led, in which case the penalty card
is picked up and any legal |
|
card may be played. |
|
b) forbid that suit to
be led for as long as he retains the lead, in which case the penalty |
|
card is picked up and any legal card may be
played. |

A minor penalty
card must be played before any other card of the same suit below an |

honour excepting a) he may play an honour card instead or |

b) he may play any legal card of another suit. |

If either a) or b) the penalty card remains a minor penalty

TWO OR MORE PENALTY CARDS |
| LAW 51 A |
If a defender has two or more penalty cards that can legally
be played,declarer designates |
|
which is to be played
at that turn. |
| LAW 51 B 1 |
a) If a defender has 2 or more penalty cards in one suit,and
declarer requires defenders |
|
partner to lead that
suit,the cards of that suit are no longer penalty cards and are |
|
picked up;the defender
may make any legal play to the trick. |
|
b) If declarer forbids the lead of that suit,the defender
picks up every penalty card in |
|
that suit and may make
any legal play to the trick. |
| LAW 51 B 2 |
a) When a defender has
penalty cards in mote than one suit declarer may require the |
|
defenders partner to
lead any suit in which the defender has a penalty card. |
|
LAW 51 B 1 applies |
|
b) When a defender has penalty cards in more than one
suit,declarer may prohibit the |
|
defenders partner from
leading one or more of such suits;but the defender picks up every |
|
penalty card in every
suit prohibited by declarer and may make any legal play to the trick. |

If a defender fails to lead or play a penalty card in
accordance with LAW 50,he may
not, |

his own initiative,withdraw any other card he has played. |
| LAW 52 B 1 |
a) Declarer may
accept lead or play. |

b)Declarer must accept if he has played from his own hand or dummy. |
|
c) If accepted under a) or b) then the penalty card remains. |
| LAW 52 B 2 |
If declarer does not accept then the penalty card must be substituted and the card |
|
withdrawn becomes a
major penalty card. |
